In line with its values of ‘we care’ and ‘we want to do things that matter’, Frazer-Nash is committed to supporting staff who wish to undertake STEM outreach activities, and hopes the launch of its new ‘STEM Hub’ initiative will increase employee uptake across the business.
Coordinated by a key internal team, and sponsored by the company’s board, the initiative will support those promoting STEM by helping to fund time spent undertaking outreach activities, as well as travel and any material costs.
Holly Gregory, who joined Frazer-Nash as a Senior Engineer last year, commented on the initiative:
“STEM outreach is really important to us. As a female engineer, I feel that I’d have benefitted from that exposure to role models within the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths when I was younger. Our aim is to be informative and engaging – to make STEM feel accessible to everyone, and inspire the much-needed next generation of STEM employees.”
“We formed the hub to make it easier for those who wish to schedule regular outreach activities around their day-to-day roles. By allocating funding into this scheme, we hope that more employees will be encouraged to seize both professional and personal development opportunities. Outreach programs such as this one are really useful for engineers who are applying for Chartership, so we gain opportunities, as well as being able to give back.”
Zoe Hodgins, STEM Lead at Frazer-Nash, added:
“This first iteration of the STEM Hub will initially run for our UK employees, with the full functionality of the STEM Hub added incrementally over the next year.
“Once fully implemented, the hub will be a platform for people to see upcoming activities in their region that they can get involved in, make it easier for resources and materials to be shared, and encourage idea sharing.
“So far, we have supported at careers events in schools, and attended the Big Bang Fair to teach students the important of nuclear for Net Zero. We will also be attending an event as part of the initiative in September of this year, at the IMechE Vision of the Future Competition. This should be a great opportunity for us to engage with children who have an interest in STEM subjects, and we hope to offer valuable insights whilst we’re there.”
