Frazer-Nash’s Managing Director, Neil McDougall, features in a wide-ranging interview with editor of The Engineer, Jon Excell, published in September.
During the interview, Neil talked about the business challenges presented by COVID-19, and how Frazer-Nash has adapted to the ‘new different’, outlining how achieving the transition to home-working was helped by a scenario planning process that builds resilience. The process involves imagining how different potential scenarios might affect the business climate and your organisation’s operations over the long term.
Neil described to Jon how this process works:
“You map out future scenarios that you can describe in straightforward terms, and amidst all of the positive and negative scenarios you look for ‘no regret’ decisions: decisions that you can make which are okay irrespective of what happens. And that helps your resilience.”
In the article, Neil also suggests that the untapped reserves of resilience that industry has discovered during the pandemic will be key to helping address the economic challenges COVID-19 has created; and that the current situation could offer the opportunity to fundamentally reassess the UK’s industrial ambitions, particularly around developing low carbon energy.
