This month, colleagues from across Frazer-Nash’s UK business have been celebrating Pride – and last Friday, 7 August, many got together online, to celebrate diversity, and show support for their LGBTQ+ friends and colleagues.
In support of our virtual Pride event was the opportunity to show off our new Frazer-Nash Pride t-shirts, and the specially curated Pride background, during Teams calls. Staff were invited to snap a selfie in their surroundings, and send them in to our internal communications team, which many did. The photos featured flags, face paints, and even a feisty feline.
But more importantly for us, was the opportunity to learn about Pride and its history – which included an invitation to read the BBC’s article, ‘Stonewall: A riot that changed millions of lives’ – which documents the movement that has helped shape the lives of generations.
We have built a resources page on our intranet dedicated to our LGBTQ+ staff, where our Pride photo gallery lives, and will hopefully continue to grow. This page also features thought pieces from members of staff, such as the article we supplied to the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), which was printed in the July/August issue of The Environment magazine. In Engineering an inclusive workplace: supporting and celebrating diversity, Keir Gravil and Anthony Kwong talked to colleague, Ian Tarplee, about their experiences of being ‘out’ at work, and suggested steps that organisations can take to promote LGBTQ+ inclusivity and to celebrate diversity. Whilst the challenge around working, socialising and celebrating from home remain, we were pleased to see our colleagues from all over the UK come together and share a wealth of love and support in all forms, to celebrate Pride.
