The European Turbine Network (ETN) is a non-profit membership organisation, which brings together the entire gas turbine industry. It has 116 members from across 22 countries, and facilitates cooperative efforts to exchange ideas, knowledge and promote collaborative R&D projects.
The mission of the Young Engineers Committee is ‘to provide promising engineers at the start of their career an opportunity to interact with colleagues from other companies, and with leaders and technical experts of the wider turbomachinery community with the objective to develop and support ideas and projects of common interest in the energy transition field.’
Laurie, who works within Frazer-Nash’s asset integrity engineering area, has been with the company for almost four years, bringing his skill set to help develop industry leading methods and tools for component life prediction material modelling in the gas turbine sector.
During his time as chair of the ETN Young Engineers Committee, Laurie has been responsible for guiding the direction of the committee, chairing meetings, and helping facilitate some of the YEC’s projects and technical engagement. Some of the projects the YEC has supported to deliver whilst Laurie has been Chair include:
- Hydrogen deployment in centralised power generation;
- ETN global response to REPowerEU plan and winter preparedness package;
- ETN YEC gas turbines digitalisation blog.
Laurie comments:
“I have been the Chair of the European Turbine Network Young Engineers Committee for the past three months. This has given me the opportunity to lead the direction of an international committee of engineers, tasked with understanding and articulating the key challenges facing the industry and the sustainable use of gas turbines internationally.
“This has been a great opportunity not only to learn more about the industry, but to work closely with a large team to achieve the best we can for the European Turbine Network moving forwards.”
