Established in 1901, the VCC has spent 125 years helping young people develop, discover what they are capable of and prepare for the challenges of the future.
National Cadets Week provides an opportunity not only to celebrate that history, but to showcase the impact of the Cadet Forces today and recognise the cadets and adult volunteers who make that impact possible.
Meet The Challenge
The VCC motto, Meet the Challenge, reflects an enduring purpose that remains as relevant today as it was in 1901: encouraging young people to challenge themselves, develop their abilities and have the confidence to take on new opportunities.
Cadet life is about far more than wearing a uniform.
It provides young people with opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, communication, resilience, responsibility and practical skills that can benefit them well beyond their time as a cadet.
It is also about belonging, contributing to communities and creating an environment where young people are encouraged to try something new, learn through experience and discover what they can achieve.
A partnership built around challenge
As a proud Gold Award holder of the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme, Frazer-Nash Consultancy is proud to partner with the VCC during its 125th anniversary year through the APM Challenge.
The partnership brings together the VCC's commitment to youth development with Frazer-Nash's professional expertise, providing an opportunity to apply project management skills to a genuine organisational challenge and create a lasting benefit.
It is a partnership with development at its heart: supporting the VCC while giving Frazer-Nash people an opportunity to apply their skills, collaborate, innovate and develop through a real-world project.
“For 125 years, the Volunteer Cadet Corps has been helping develop young people into dependable and reliable members of society, using the traditions, standards and ethos of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines to provide a foundation for growth, learning and personal development. As we celebrate our history, the inaugural National Cadets Week gives us a chance to shine a light on what cadet life means today and the incredible contribution made by our cadets and volunteers across the country. Our 125th anniversary is not simply about looking back at where we have come from. It is about looking forward to where we are going. The young people in the VCC today are the next generation of leaders, professionals, volunteers and community members, and our responsibility is to give them the confidence, skills and opportunities to meet whatever challenges lie ahead. Our motto, ‘Meet The Challenge’, captures that perfectly. We want every cadet to leave the VCC knowing that they are capable of more than they perhaps thought possible.
Maj (VCC) Louis Colpitts, Deputy Commander, Volunteer Cadet Corps
Creating the next generation
While the VCC is rightly proud of its 125-year history, its focus remains firmly on the future.
That future is made possible by its Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs).
Adult volunteers create the environment in which young people can thrive. They coach, mentor, encourage and challenge cadets while helping them build confidence and develop skills for life.
Volunteering also provides adults with opportunities to develop their own leadership, coaching, mentoring, communication and organisational skills while making a tangible difference to young people's lives.
If you are looking for an opportunity to challenge yourself while helping the next generation do the same, consider becoming a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer. You can find out more by emailing apply@volunteercadetcorps.org
The Volunteer Cadet Corps has a proud history of helping young people build the confidence, skills and resilience to meet future challenges. We chose to support the VCC because that commitment to developing people and strengthening communities closely reflects our own values. Through the APM Challenge, our team can apply its professional expertise to a genuine organisational need, while developing its own skills through purposeful, real-world collaboration. It is a partnership that creates value on both sides and, most importantly, supports the VCC in continuing to make a lasting difference for young people.
Nick Jones, Defence & Security Director, Frazer-Nash Consultancy
Could your organisation be our next challenge?
The collaboration does not stop here.
The VCC welcomes opportunities to work with organisations and charities that can share expertise, create opportunities or collaborate in ways that benefit young people and communities.
Frazer-Nash is already looking ahead to next year's APM Challenge and would like to hear from charities with a genuine organisational challenge, improvement opportunity or project that could benefit from the skills and expertise of a Frazer-Nash team. If you're interested in finding out more, email Andy Collacott andrew.collacott@fnc.co.uk
The APM Challenge creates an opportunity to combine professional development with social value, enabling people to develop and demonstrate their project management capabilities while helping a charitable organisation address a real challenge and create sustainable impact.
Whether you are considering becoming a volunteer, partnering with the VCC, or are a charity interested in working with Frazer-Nash through a future APM Challenge, we would love to hear from you.
After 125 years, the mission continues.
